Idirbhliain Taithí Oibre & Obair Dheonach/Transition Year Work Experience & Voluntary Work

Scroll down for English

Roghnaíonn agus eagraíonn na mic léinn an socrúchá(i)n oibre iad féin. Cabhraíonn an múinteoir gairmtreoir agus comhordaitheoir na hidirbhliana leo ach is ar an scoláire atá an fhreagracht é a réiteach. I rith na seachtaine ní fhreastalaíonn na scoláirí ar scoil ach bíonn siad san eagraíocht atá roghnaithe acu. Ag deireadh na seachtaine, cuirfidh an fostóir tuairisc faoin mac léinn isteach agus coimeádfaidh an mac léinn dialann machnaimh ar a t(h)aithí. Déanfaidh comhordaitheoir na hidirbhliana iarracht cuairt a thabhairt ar scoláirí san ionaid oibre chun monatóireacht a dhéanamh ar a ndul chun cinn.

Obair Dheonach

Mar scoil Dhoiminiceach, déanaimid iarracht daltaí a stiúradh chun sochaí chóir a aimsiú agus a chruthú. “Tá sé mar aidhm againn oideachas a chur ar ár gcuid mic léinn le bheith ina ndaoine ionracais agus freagrachta, a bhfuil a n-acmhainneacht tosaithe á bhaint amach agus a úsáidfidh a gcuid bronntanais chun cur le sochaí níos córa.” (Domincan Way - Ar thóir na Fírinne). Chun é seo a léiriú tá dhá sheachtain d’obair dheonach ionchorpraithe againn i gclár na hidirbhliana. Cuireann mic léinn a gcuid seirbhísí ar fáil d’eagraíocht charthanach nó dheonach ar feadh seachtaine ag tús mhí na Nollag agus arís i mí Bealtaine. Chabhraigh siad i raon leathan suíomhanna lena n-áirítear Cappuchin Soup Kitchen; Animal rescue organisations, Friends of the Elderly, TLC nursing home agus St Michael’s House. Tugann sé seo deis iontach do mhic léinn a fheiceáil go bhfuil gá lena leithéid d’obair chun sochaí níos cothroime a chur chun cinn. Téann go leor mic léinn ar aghaidh chun obair dheonach a dhéanamh do na heagraíochtaí lena n-oibríonn siad agus fiú an obair sin a úsáid ina gcuid oibre do ghradam an Uachtaráin – An Gaisce.

Is obair í seo in eagraíocht charthanachta a oibríonn ar son eagraíochtaí neamhbhrabúis eile ar nós siopaí carthanachta, cistineacha anraith, tithe altranais srl.

Taithí oibre

Moltar go ndéanfadh na scoláirí dhá shocrúchán éagsúla don dá sheachtain taithí oibre más féidir.

Students choose and organise the work placement (s) themselves. They are helped by the Careers teacher and TY co-ordinator but it is the student’s responsibility to sort it out.During the week the students do not attend school but are in the organisation(s) they have chosen. At the end of the week the employer will submint a report on the student and the student will themselves keep a diary of reflection on their experience. The Transition Year co-ordinator will try and visit as many of the students on work placement as possible in order to monitor their progress.

Voluntary Work

As a Dominican school we try to instil our students with a sense of seeking a just society. “We aim to educate our students to be people of integrity and responsibility, whose potential has begun to be realised and who will use their gifts to contribute to a more just society.” (Domincan Way- In search of Truth). To reflect this we have incorporated two weeks of Voluntary work in the Transition Year programme. Students offer their services to a charitable or vountary organsition for a week at the beginning of December and again in May. They have helped out in a wide variety of settings including the Cappuchin Soup Kitchen; Animal rescue organisations, Friends of the Elderly, TLC nursing home and St Michael’s House. This provides a great opportunity to students to see the need for such work to promote a fairer society. Many students go on to volunteer for the organisations they work with and even incorporate such work into their work for the President’s award – An Gaisce

This is work in charitable organisation that works on behalf of other people-not-for profit organisations such as charity shops, soup kitchens, nursing homes etc.

Work Experience

It is recommended that students do two different placements for the two weeks of work experience if possible.
